20 May 2017 - Scotland Day 01 - Wet in Dundee

Evening. Time's weird, yo.

Day 85? on Lexapro.

Mood: 6.5.

Well, I didn't sleep at all last night - rather, I stayed awake, doing whatever I could to not fall asleep, listening to so much music and watching YouTube and playing web games. My approach to get myself on UK time is simple if challenging - completely disrupt my sleep schedule in order to reset it. It seems to be working - it's 10:57pm as I write this, and it definitely feels like almost 11pm.

I ate an incredibly late supper at around 12:30am. It was a chicken curry, rice, and naan, and I found it to be quite tasty. Dinner was accompanied by a glass of half red, half white wine - it was okay at best. I'm not a huge fan of dry stuff. Dessert was this fantastically rich but light lemon custard topped with strawberries; I wish I had had more of the stuff.

Breakfast, around 9am, was leftovers from dinner, chicken and rice. It was still fantastically delicious.

Since it was raining out, we ended up going to the University of Dundee's Degree Show, which was a massive showcase of work produced by art students. Favorite Person and I split off from the group, and attempted to see as many exhibits as possible; however, the buildings were extremely confusing in layout, so most of our time ended up being just looking for things. I didn't mind that, though - there was a lot to see, and I like exploring.

After we left the art show, we looked for a place to find an umbrella (it rains a lot in Scotland), and somehow ended up in a mall. Before entering, though, we got pounds from an ATM, which felt kind of odd but somehow also cool. After obtaining an umbrella, we looked for a map of the city center, in an attempt to locate things of interest. We stopped at a small coffee house - I got a hot chocolate, she got a mocha frappe, and we shared an apple shortbread thingy. Everything was amazing. I can't overstate how good everything was; if we get an opportunity this trip, we're going to Henry's Coffee House again (and if you're in Dundee, I highly recommend going).

We got a map of the city, then set off to try to find the zoological museum on campus. We got drenched in the process, but we eventually found it - only to discover that it's only open on Saturdays from noon to 2pm. Oh well.

I don't know what it is, but every time we've been on the road, I've gotten motion sick. I'm 2000% not a fan of that.

Dinner was a meat pie of sorts, fingerling potatoes, quick pickles, and arugula salad; dessert was a wonderfully perfect meringue nest topped with a thick, sweet cream, half of a poached pear, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. I didn't care for the pear (they're just fuzzy apples to me), but everything else was good.

Naturally, I spent a lot of time outside catching bees today, and gathered a total of 14 specimens. I am happy.

The depressed thoughts - the feeling of not deserving to be on this trip, of not belonging, didn't arise today.

Tomorrow, we're going to St. Andrew's. Whatever that is.

Until then.
