09 Jun 2017 - Like Fuzzy Slippers

Evening, yet again.  Day 105 on Lexapro.  Mood: 7.5.   Yesterday, I met with a friend that I haven't seen in years (I think I'll call him...Kofinsa), to catch up. While waiting for him at the designated meeting place, this odd nervousness began bubbling up. This friend and I have some history - we had a thing for each other around the time when we first met, though that never went anywhere. From time to time, those old feelings still come up, though they're usually tainted with a lonely veneer these days.  I was worried and nervous for no reason, though. When he finally made it to the meeting place, and when I hugged him, breathing in that familiar scent, it was like no time had passed between seeing each other at all, like putting on your favorite pair of house shoes that you'd forgotten about in storage but still fit absolutely perfectly. We walked down Michigan Avenue for a while, looking for someplace shaded and quiet to park ourselves to picnic. Neither ...

03 Mar 2017 - Wandering

Hello everyone! Hope your days were good.  Today marks the end of my first week on Lexapro, and I'm quite happy with my progress - I no longer feel like garbage all the time, my outlook is less pessimistic, and I'm just generally more hopeful about life than I have been in a while. It's probably too early to draw any conclusions, but I think that the drug is doing exactly what it's supposed to, and with minimal side effects.  I've come to the conclusion that the increase in appetite I've noted over the past few days isn't due to some direct action of the drug. It's the result of my being significantly less depressed, and my depression acted to suppress my appetite. I'm not sure why it took me days to realize this, since I've known for about a year now that sudden decreases in appetite are a sure sign of an impending depressive episode. Feeling strongly compelled to eat more frequently than every twelve hours is strange for now, though eventua...

02 Mar 2017 - Grants and Posters

Hi there! I hope you had a good day today.  Day 06 on Lexapro. As with the past few days, I'm not noticing any more side effects, which is better than I hoped for before starting. It seems to be stimulating my appetite - even though I'm eating the same amount for breakfast as normal, I'm getting hungry far earlier in the day than is my "normal" - which is interesting, because one of the well-documented side effects of escitalopram is decreased appetite.  My mood is still overall pretty good, pretty positive. In a couple words, I'd say that I felt playful and airy today, something I haven't felt in a long time. There's a nagging suspicion in the back of my mind that the good times won't last very long, but I'm attempting to enjoy it while it's here. I met with the professor I work with (I do research on a group of bees found in the American southwest south to South America in a pollination ecology lab) today to discuss and begin fleshing...

28 Feb 2017 - Good Spirits

Hello, for the second time today. Fourth day on Lexapro. I'm thinking that yesterday's tiredness was a fluke - I wasn't particularly tired today, especially as the day progressed. No new side effects, at least nothing that I can notice, which is good. I don't know if it's the drug or just the natural ebb and flow of my depression, but I was in a rather good mood today. That may be due at least in part to lively conversation with people I'm fond of, since social interaction isn't something that happens every day for me. What can I say, I'm a bit of a lonely hermit that spends all of their free time working. As with yesterday and the day before and the day before that, nothing of note really happened today. It's raining right now, and hard. I enjoy the sound. Until tomorrow. 28 Feb 2017
