05 May 2017 - C'est complet, mon papier du poisson est complet

Evening.

Day 71 with Lexapro.

Mood: 5.2.

This is the first day of no doses, and as with the accidental occurrences, my mood is a bit better. It's too early to say that it's the lower levels of escitalopram in my system, or the relief of completing two things that were sources of stress and the knowledge that I can sleep in tomorrow, if I so choose. So far so good, I suppose.

I, again, was unable to make it to my first class today, and would have stayed in bed until my 2pm class had I not remembered that my timeslip for my lab assistant position is due today. I'm not about to run the risk of not being paid for the work I've done for the past two weeks, when I've put in almost twice my normal lab time. Speaking of, today was payday. It felt good to see some extra money in my account, though much of it immediately went to paying off my credit card balance. I really, truly hope that Scotland is worth the income I'm losing due to it.

There's a new postdoc in my lab, who will be helping with the inventory this summer and might stay longer. I like her a lot, and though I only met her a few days ago, I very much look forward to chatting with her each day; working with her over the summer is going to be a blast, I can feel it. She's an entomologist by trade, but this is her first time working with bees - most of her experience prior has been with flies and with beetles. Since there's not a whole lot happening in the lab right this second, with all specimens from field days having been pinned already, she's been working on familiarizing herself with the common groups of bees. She and I spent a long time going over what bees we're most likely to find in the area, easy ways to distinguish the groups (megachilids always have scopae on the undersides of the abdomens; carpenter bees are the big ones with shiny butts; Agapostemon and members of Augochlorini are bright green; female members of Andrena have "eyebrows"). The moment that she responded to the sight of a bee face in the same way I do, with a effusive proclamation of how cute it was, I knew that we'd get on just fine. I love her enthusiasm about the subject, her willingness to ask me questions, the way that feel like I'm on equal footing. That she's another person of color helps as well.

I finally finished the write-up for my biostatistics project, and I am glad to be rid of it. It's a pile of hot garbage, yes, and even my attempts at editing it were polishing a turd. My partner got very pissy about edits, not wanting me to touch the parts that she wrote. Naturally, my solution to this was to copy everything over to a document that she didn't have access to and continue writing in peace. There were major concepts left out of the paper that would have contributed greatly to its strength as a piece of writing, but that required extra research on my part, energy that I no longer had to expend. So, I tidied it up to the best of my abilities and turned it in. Let's see what grade we get.

The weather looks to be nice tomorrow. I might go out collecting for fun; I haven't caught any bees for my personal collection in a long, long time.

Until then.
